Contact Music reports that while Nicole Richie and Joel Madden aren't yet engaged, they have exchanged rings, and Nicole wears hers on her wedding ring finger.

An inside source says that they wouldn't be surprised if the couple became engaged within the next six months.

Madden recently broke up with Hilary Duff, and Richie was seeing DJ AM.
