76 year old actor Roy Scheider passed away yesterday in Little Rock, Arkansas at the UAMS Medical Center. No cause of death was given.

Scheider was best known as the Amity Chief of Police in 'Jaws' and 'Jaws 2' from the 1970's, but his long career started way back in 1956 as a soap actor on 'The Edge of Night'. Since his start, he had added more than 85 acting credits to his resume, including two films that had completed production and are due to be released this year. He was also an accomplished musician, producer, and voice over artist.

Scheider is survived by his wife of 19 years, and three children.
